What Is the Difference Between Suction-Assisted Liposuction and Laser-Assisted Liposuction, and Which One Is Right for Me?

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery treatments avaiable. In 2020, over 210,000 liposuction surgeries were performed in the United States. If struggling with your weight and your appearance is taking a toll on your well-being, then removing the fat may be your next step. You’ve researched different plastic surgeons, you’ve narrowed down the body part you want to correct, and you’ve made the decision to undergo liposuction, but now is the time to decide which liposuction technique is right for you. At Synergy Face + Body, we offer both suction-assisted liposuction and laser-assisted liposuction to help remove unwanted fat. This blog will dive a little deeper into liposuction and explore what these two options can mean for you!

Liposuction in General

Most people know what liposuction is, but let’s refresh your memory or clear things up, if necessary. Liposuction removes excess fat from the abdomen, hips, legs, thighs, bra roll, chin, and arms. It allows both men and women to feel more confident in their bodies and provides them with a more contoured and flattering physique.

What Are My Liposuction Options?

At Synergy Face + Body, we offer both suction-assisted liposuction and laser-assisted liposuction. Both techniques will provide similar results. Depending on the area(s) being treated, your liposuction procedure could take up to three hours to complete.

Suction-Assisted Liposuction

This technique is the more traditional option of the two. Suction-assisted liposuction uses a high-negative-pressure vacuum to remove the fat through a hollow instrument called a cannula that is inserted beneath the skin through a very small incision in the treatment area.

Laser-Assisted Liposuction

We use the high-definition laser ALLURA™ by Sciton®. This laser delivers energy directly to subcutaneous fat cells to essentially liquify them. The energy that radiates through coagulates the tissues, which induces collagen retraction and tissue tightening.

How Do I Know Which Technique Is Right for Me?

The choice between suction-assisted liposuction and laser-assisted liposuction is ultimately up to you and your physician. Scheduling your consultation with a board-certified surgeon is your first step to success. Your surgeon will have the knowledge and experience necessary to examine your body, discuss your goals, and lay out all the options and the best option for you, your body type, and your goals. Once you are given all of the information, you can better decide which technique would best suit your needs and desires at this time in your life.

How Do I Maintain My Results?

Although liposuction removes the fat cells for good, that does not mean that new fat cells will not reappear. Exercising and eating right will help prevent new fat cells from forming, allowing you to maintain your new contours.
