Dr. Shaw joined Synergy after running his own practice in Richmond successfully for over a decade. Philanthropy + Community Service
Dr. Shaw’s inspiration was realized on a trip with his father to the Kjabe Mission Hospital in Kenya during his second year of medical school. During this trip, after witnessing many patients with facial deformities, he found his passion and a path toward making a real difference in the lives of others.
Philanthropy has been a prominent force in Dr. Shaw’s life even before he wanted to become a surgeon. His father, Dr. James Shaw, taught his son a deep sense of responsibility to care for others. Dr. James Shaw donated his time on medical missions to the Dominican Republic and Ukraine before starting a clinic out of the back room of a church on Thursday nights.
Today, the Lackey Free Medical Clinic near Yorktown, Virginia delivers over $5.8 million in free care to those who otherwise may not have access to quality healthcare.
Community Service
Dr. Travis Shaw currently volunteers his expertise in facial reconstruction to victims of domestic violence through a project called FACE TO FACE: The National Domestic Violence Project. He’s also a proud participant of Access Now, a program by the Richmond Academy of Medicine dedicated to providing specialized medical care for individuals who lack health insurance and would otherwise be ineligible to receive the help they need.
