Many people have unwanted hair on their face and/or body. Hair in unwanted areas can make you feel very self-conscious and negatively affect your self-esteem. Although there are ways to get rid of unwanted hair through shaving and waxing, there are only temporary measures. Luckily there is a way to get rid of unwanted hair in a permanent way through laser hair removal.

How laser hair removal works

Laser hair removal works by targeting the hair follicles with a strong laser. The laser destroys the hair follicles and therefore prevents the growth of further hair. At Synergy Spa & Aesthetics, we use a Sciton BBL system that allows for the safe and effective removal of unwanted hair in a number of areas on the body. It’s worth pointing out that in order to get rid of the hair completely in a certain area, multiple treatment sessions may be required. How effective laser treatment is varies depending on the patient. Although permanent hair removal is usually possible, for some patients a touch up session each year may be required.

Is it painful?

Most patients experience some discomfort during laser hair removal treatment, however it’s tolerable in the majority of cases. The amount of discomfort experience will depend on the individual pain threshold of the patient as well as the area being treated. A topical anesthetic can be applied prior to treatment in order to make the experience more comfortable. There will also be some redness and swelling after the treatment but this will subside within a few hours.

What areas can be treated?
Below are some of the main areas that can be treated with laser hair removal.

  • Arms
  • Back
  • Legs
  • Bikini line

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for treatment?

There isn’t much you need to do in order to prepare for laser treatment. Simply make sure that you’re wearing clothes that allow for easy access to the area being treated. Also you should shave the area being treated 24 hours prior to your treatment session.
