What is a chemical peel?
Facial skin peel treatments, or chemical peels, use physician-grade chemical agents to resurface and, at times, remove the top layers of the skin.
There are typically three different levels of a facial skin peel treatment:
Light Peels exfoliate only the outermost layer of the skin to help improve pigmentation, fine lines, acne, and dry skin. These peels typically contain medical-grade glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, and/or mandelic acid to stimulate skin cell turnover.
The recovery time for a light peel is 1-3 days depending on your skin type and lifestyle.
Medium Peels penetrate deeper into the skin andcan target acne scars & wrinkles. These utilize special concentrations and mixtures of exfoliating acids and work by removing damaged skin cells from both the epidermis and the upper layers of the dermis.
Recovery time for a medium peel is 4-7 days.
Deep Peels can achieve dramatic results, but do involve significantly more downtime, as the dark spots we are targeting can become temporarily darker until they peel away. Deep peels also require pre-treatment care at home under the guidance of one of Synergy’s experienced aestheticians.
There are also a variety of chemical peels on the market.
Here are just a few of our favorite chemical peels in Raleigh at Synergy:
