Preparing for My Facelift Surgery

So, you’ve already gone through the consultation process with our Synergy Face + Body professionals; you have your surgery date set, but now what?? Preparing for your facelift surgery can be nerve-wracking, but it can also help the entire process go as smoothly as possible. Following these preparation guidelines can ensure that your facelift surgery will be successful both before your surgery and during your recovery.

A few weeks before your facelift surgery, you will be given important pre-op requirements that you must follow. By doing this, you will be setting yourself up for a great surgery and recovery period. If you smoke, you must stop smoking at least six weeks before your surgery, as smoking can increase the risk of complications with your surgery. Do not take any medications, like aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs because there is an increased risk of bleeding. Other ways to prepare for your facelift surgery include:

  • Do not eat the night before, if instructed
  • Secure a driver who can drive you home from your surgery
  • Get your home in order, so it is a comfortable place for you to rest and recover
  • Stay hydrated

Ask Any Last-Minute Questions

During your pre-op appointment, you will have a chance to ask any last-minute questions that you may have. As you get closer to the surgery date, write down these questions so that you don’t forget to ask them. By doing this, you can feel 100 percent confident and ready for your facelift.

After your surgery is complete, you can rest and relax. You did it! You’re on your way to a refreshed and rejuvenated you! Do not push yourself too hard; enjoy the downtime. Bruising, swelling, and moderate discomfort is totally normal. If you are in pain, then you may take some prescribed pain medication to alleviate the discomfort. Keep your head elevated, and also keep the bandages on until you are instructed to remove them. Although we want you to rest, it is very important to get up and move every now and then to promote blood flow and healthy healing.

In the Long Run…

Remember to always wear your sunscreen when you are out in the sun, enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and come in for injectable treatments if you feel like you need a few touch-up treatments here and there over time. Aftercare maintenance is just as essential as pre-and-post-operative care. Savor your new look, and walk around with your head held high with confidence!
