When Do I Need a Brow Lift Instead of BOTOX® Cosmetic?

There’s no denying that the results achieved from BOTOX® Cosmetic are stunning. Patients are able to look younger and more rejuvenated after their injectable treatment. However, for many men and women, there comes a time when their injectable treatments no longer give the same dramatic transformation as they once did. If/when this time comes, you have two real options: continue with the BOTOX® Cosmetic injections and be happy with whatever improvements they give you or consider undergoing a brow lift instead.

What Is a Brow Lift?

Brow lift surgery (also known as a forehead lift) is a cosmetic surgery procedure that helps correct skin issues (whether it be sagging skin, wrinkles, or fine lines) from your eyes to your hairline. A brow lift can help smooth your skin and lessen the appearance of crow’s feet and frown lines as well as wrinkles on the forehead and sagging eyebrow skin to give you a more inviting facial expression.

How Is a Brow Lift Performed?

A brow lift usually takes anywhere from one to two hours to complete and is generally performed under local anesthesia, though twilight sedation or general anesthesia may be used, if necessary. After the anesthesia has been administered, your plastic surgeon will make an incision along the hairline. Then, depending on whether a traditional brow lift or a contemporary brow lift is being performed, your skin will be pulled tight to create a smoother and more youthful appearance or the muscles that are causing the issues will be removed. Any excess skin will be cut away before the incision is closed, and you are ready to begin your recovery.

Brow Lift Surgery vs BOTOX® Cosmetic

While there is absolutely nothing wrong with having BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments, the truth is that the results achieved from injections do not last as long as the results attained from surgical procedures like a brow lift surgery. Because of this, you need to have maintenance treatments every three to four months with BOTOX® Cosmetic, where your brow lift results are long lasting. In fact, while a brow lift cannot keep the natural effects of aging completely away, with a healthy lifestyle (balanced diet, regualr exercise, and a good skincare routine) the results from your brow lift surgery can be permanent.

Another benefit of brow lift surgery is that excess skin can be removed to give you an even more transformed appearance, whereas BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the bothersome muscles that are causing the wrinkles and blemishes in the skin and cannot correct significantly loose and sagging skin.

Because of these differences, many younger patients tend to have BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to give them the rejuvenated facial appearance they desire, while many older patients with more apparent sagging and wrinkles have brow lift surgery. In the end, though, the choice between BOTOX® Cosmetic and a brow lift is dependent on what you are looking to achieve with your facial aesthetic.
